CNA’s certified nurse aide, or certified nursing assistant, and goes by many other names are essential healthcare workers. They are one of the most important members of the healthcare team.
So, where can they work? CNA’s can work almost anywhere in the healthcare industry, but there’s a catch. You want to make sure that the place you work keeps your certification active. You can find this information on your states board. So in the state of Alabama to keep your CNA certification active you have to work in a nursing home, hospital, mental health facility, or home health. So while you may see many people in assisted living or retirement homes are performing similar duties as CNA’s, working there will not keep your certification active because it is not approved for Alabama. Other states will allow different locations to keep your certification active, but you need to check to be sure. You would hate to get certified and start working somewhere that is not approved and lose your certification. To get your certification back you would have to take another program to get certified again. That would be a lot of work.
So if you are in Alabama to keep your certification active you can work in a
mental health facility
and home health.
